Why did they premiere this on a Thursday...

when the second and all following episodes will air on Mondays? Commercial skippers and those not in the DVR crowd (admittedly a small group) might not catch that and try to tune in next Thursday. Just wondering why they would do it this way?

Because premiering after The Big Bang Theory guarantees a huge sampling of people will try the show even if they lose some in the transition to Monday's.

They want BBT as a lead in.

Because Judd Hirsch plays the father of one of the characters on Big Bang and was very well received in that role by those fans. Probably hoped they'd tune in for him.
