Between Girls and this show so far, I'm getting that people from Brooklyn are self-obsessed, arrogant posers who won't bother with you unless you're an "artist" of some kind. I can't tell if Dory's friends are deliberately depicted as over-the-top, if this is satire, or what. And yeah, I'm only one episode in but am debating how much further to go.

Brooklyn is huge, and most people who live in it aren't hipsters.
I had a date with a guy one time who said that restaurants in north Brooklyn are what people talk about, and restaurants in south Brooklyn are what your grandmother talks about - something to that effect. I regretted for a long time afterward that I never told him just how pretentious he is.
