Can I watch this without watching FF 8 & 9?

I've been considering it. For reference I watched FF 7 without watching 4, 5 or 6 and felt like I didn't miss out on much. Of the FF franchise I've seen 1-3 & 7.

Can I just dive into this one and enjoy it as an brainless action flick or do I need to see the two previous entries to follow the story?

You should watch Cars 2 beforehand.
