Josie to ge black

It was annoying making jimmy black and called james ,, but now blackening josie mccoy?

reply

That really irritates me. When I think of Josie I will always think of the 2001 movie and I expect Josie and Melody to be white and Valerie to be black.

reply

Well, all members of Josie and the Pussycat Dolls will be black in this adaptation of the characters

reply

Loving me some black Josie, so hot!

Valerie was always the black Pussycat, but that's not enough diversity! They need to go that extra mile and make the entire band black, otherwise Val will just be accused of being the token black character, which is RACIST. It's really getting stupid.

reply

So having black people in a movie is stupid? What difference does it make?

reply

Wow. This really discourages me to watch the show. I am so sick of this racist political correctness crap. Josie is a white redhead. She's my favorite character and I always identified with her as a kid growing up in the comics. She was my favorite character. Stop with about your racism crap. You'd be pissed too if someobody just came in and totally CHANGED your favorite childhood character. Nobody wants that here. It's like making Valerie white. Why? There is no point. Honestly, making the band of the show all black is racist in my opinion. That's pretty stereotypical in and of itself plus pissing original fans off that have followed the Archie Comics for their whole lives.

reply

Why is it annoying? Why does the race matter?

reply

It matters because Josie and Melody are not black and have for over fifty years never been black! Chuck and Nancy are two major recurring characters who are both black and could easily have been utilized, not to mention the fact that Valerie of the Pussycats is black and has always been black! There was absolutely no need to do this--not for the sake of diversity or otherwise! This is just stupidity at its finest!

reply

I see that Pop Tate is black now as well.

I really try not to complain too much about these things, because if an actor is right for a part, I have no problem changing a character, as long as it's for their acting and not stunt casting. And as had been mentioned (by you, I believe), there are characters already in Archie canon that they could use for diversity's sake, without the need to change already established characters. Again, there have been characters that were changed for movies/television - Lawrence Fishburne as Perry White, Michael Clark Duncan as Kingpin, etc. - that worked very well. But if one were to play devil's advocate, what sort of outrage would there have been if a white guy were cast as The Falcon? Or Black Panther? Or Luke Cage?

reply

I liked black Pop Tate! Making the Pussycats all black seemed a step back to me since it implies the black girls don't have white friends.

I'm a white guy. Batman has been my favorite character all my life. If they made an iteration of him as a black man, I would still love his character and still identity with him. I should judge him by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin like you're clearly doing whether you mean to maliciously or not.
