So when the novelty of this one is over, then what?

Archie Comics has been spending the decade subverting their comics line to the point where it's not special anymore. The question they should be asking themselves is, "Now What?". When Archie and the gang are no longer corny and wholesome, but as angsty and cynical as everything else, what makes them unique anymore?

The basis of this show is riding on the fact that this isn't your parents' Archie. But when that wears off, will the people that actually give a damn still be interested?

This reminds me of The Muppets. You gave them an adult-flavored show, and now it's hard to make the step back, putting your property in limbo because it was ailing, and the creators were desperate to find an audience.

This is on CW. At least google that first. Their standard for cancellation and what not. Muppets was from a very popular brand on a big 4 network with a very high set expectations hence the Fall slot.
Once Sabrina appears it can go towards any direction like say Supernatural.
Unique? This show wouldn't have been given a chance by CW had they pitch a wholesome boring old Archie. A show like that is already expected to bomb on any broadcast network so no they won't be interested have a show like that. Ever wonder why there hasn't been an Archie live action in decades?
