Probably, it's a small northeast town and the Andrewses and Blossoms are both Scot descended in the comics.

?!? Overabundance?? Umm... there has ALWAYS been a pretty significant ginger presence in the comic books. Since the beginning! Archie, his mom and his cousin, the WHOLE Blossom family, the original Josie (of the Pussycats), Cricket O'Dell, Trula Twyst.... the list goes on! It might actually be the only place we actually get acknowledged as part of the gen pop, lol. As something other than JUST vixens, crazies, and evil things. Go Archie! :-D
