Season 2 depends on just ratings or...

In order for them to order season 2, do the ratings only matter or do they also look at the CW app views and DVR recordings? I usually am not home when this airs on tv but I watch it the next day on the app for Roku for instance. Does the CW take that into account as well to see if we will get another season? Isn't that how there was a season two of that Sex in the City prequel?

I can say that Season 2 is guaranteed with its current ratings. Beyond that though is up in the air unless CW drags it to Season 4 with low ratings. This could end up like Carrie Diaries, axed after 2 Seasons. How CW's pilots does next Fall will determine this show's fate. If at least 2 lands a back 9 then CW will start killing low rated veterans next year.

From what I am seeing it seems to be in the middle of the ratings pack for CW and I think at least a 2nd season is a guarantee. Riverdale seems to be in a good spot right now. Its best case scenario seems to be status as a cult show/guilty pleasure that floats on for say.... 4 or 5 seasons. At worse it could burnout in the 2nd season like The Carrie Diaries did.
