Guess they will never get Ethel right (tall, thin and langky) girl. What's next? Midget Midge?

She was called Big Ethel in the comics.

Big Ethel supposedly refers to her being vertically big. Not horizontally.

I mean it wasn't that they made her morbidly obese, I think the point was Ethel was always much more of an awkward homely character and they brought this alive on screen.

Even in the comics by the mid to late 90s they made her more pretty but kept her social awkwardness.

Wow. Seriously, fat? I thought the actress looked just fine.

Yes, it was a different take on Ethyl, since she was tall, skinny and awkward, but everyone on the show is different from the comics. But to call her fat? Jebus.

I agree, the actress that played her was fine. Ethel is a nice girl, but she wasn't exactly know for her looks. She was very average to below average looking in the comics. This girl that played her was cute. She wasn't quite Betty or Veronica, but that's ok.

Ethel has always been the "everyman" girl of the group in the comics. Not necessarily really known for her looks.
