I don't think it was said... I wonder if he was in the car when the daughter wrecked it and killed her friend?

reply

I think the family's reaction to her making fun of his disability would have been stronger if it had been her fault in the first place.

reply

I believe he suffers from a brain injury as the result of an accident (at least that's what I remember reading, anyway). It definitely seems like demonic forces are working on him, too, though.

reply

Why would demonic forces HELP him find the other priest? I think it's divine intervention working through him.

reply

I agree, more likely divine intervention working through the husband.

The same reason why the demon in the novel/film sought out Father Merrin. Demons like showing off their immense physical, telekinetic and psychic powers, which are a mockery in the face of God, so who better to be a witness to these things than a holy man? It would appear that you're going under the assumption that demons avoid interactions with priests in fear of being exorcised but that's not so. Don't forget that the exorcisms in the novel/film and show failed to drive out the demons; it was Father Karras's self-sacrifice that saved Regan in the novel/film and not the ritual of exorcism (and what's more is that Father Merrin- the demon's greatest human enemy- died in the process), and in the show Father Marcus's young charge was killed by the demon (after 26 days of possession, no less). It doesn't seem to me that demons have much at all to fear from priests (at least as far as this fictional universe is concerned).

Plus, when Tomas found the other priest near the end of the episode, the priest said something like "you can't even tell you're being manipulated." Sounds to me like the demon or demons are setting the stage for something.

reply

Yes, engle-james! The scene in which Henry informed Father Tomas of Father Marcus's location played out in an ominous manner; there wasn't anything holy or divine about it. It was the demon's way of 1- letting Father Tomas know that it's aware of the nightmares he's been having and is, therefore, able to get inside his mind and 2- informing Father Tomas about where he can find Father Marcus, an experienced exorcist, so they can meet and eventually conduct an exorcism(s).

It's surprising sometimes how people on these boards can misinterpret things that are so plain.

I'm thinking a boating accident since Father Tomas asked how his boat was and if he'd fixed it up. He was also watching an old movie of him fishing on a boat when he told Father Tomas about Father Marcus's location. I would agree that it wasn't divine intervention but the demon helping him find Marcus. Marcus said, "God isn't the one who works in mysterious ways. You're being manipulated by forces you can't begin to understand." The demon wants another round with Marcus, it enjoys the confrontation.

reply

I didn't think of a boating accident.

At first I though the same accident with the daughter, then early onset Alzheimer's
