Yes. The fact that Casey is the only one who can see the "Salesman" is a reference to William Peter Blatty's novel, in which Regan was the only one who could see and communicate with the seemingly friendly "Captain Howdy". "Captain Howdy" was a guise that the demon Pazuzu assumed in order to gain the young girl's trust (only to reveal it's true nature later on). The demon in the show is attempting to do the same thing with Casey by appearing to her as the benign "Salesman".
