I'm perfectly fine with the torch being passed

As long as the finished product is good and thrilling.

I try to stay open minded. I'd never have guessed I'd watch, let alone, enjoy Indonesian films but someone said try it and they are among the most electrifying actioners I've ever seen.case in point: Onk Bak, The Raid, etc. I grew up on Sly, Arnie, & Bruce. Times change & new blood can always step up and be as good, and in some cases better than the original.

Ong-Bak is a Thai film, not Indonesian. But other than that, your post is spot on.

Yeah, something felt a bit off when i wrote that. I think "certain" audiences have concern with the casting hefe because they equate black actors, especially swarthier ones with being "street types". Thank goodness for amazing folks like Idris who has acclaimed range and acceptance (except for Bond). Hollywood switches race in relaunched projects all the time. Some people wan5 to cling on only to earlier incarnations though. Like Jay says, "... want my old [stuff], buy my old albums". O'Barr, writer of the Crow graphic novel had a great paraphrasing of that, too.

"Street types?" There are white actors who play "street types",too. Black actors/actresses can play more than "street types", but they don't often get to show the full range of their talents like their white counterprts always get to do, because they get stereotyped only into certain roles simply because they are black (which was the whole point of the "#OscarSoWhite" issue. "Swarthier" ones? I didn't think anybody even used that out-of-date 19th-century term anymore. Black folks aren't "swarthy", we're black---period. Also, Jack Bauer was great, but lets face it---the character had his day. Time for some new blood to get passed the baton and to run with it.
