Why isn't J-B his intials?

They could have gone straight stereotype and called him Jamal Buchanan. That being said I'm glad they didn't give him a stereotyped "Black" name. Nor his wife for that matter.

I'm your daddy and what do I do?

"Stereotyped" black name? You do know that Jamal is an Arabic name, which got pretty popular among black folks for a while due to the Black Muslims. Nothing "stereotyped" about it, because it's actually a common name amongst some brothers, and not just the Black Muslim ones. And just so you know, the names Eric and Carter are pretty common among African-Americans too. I don't see you saying that a stereotype, though. Why? Because the name supposedly sounds more "white" to you? Eric Carter is just another typical and common "black" name where I'm from, which is why I like it for the main character in 24.

And so what if he had been named Jamal? So what? White characters have stereotypical names all the time like Clark, Lexington, Buffy, Susan, and all that. Basically, your post is coming from that old racist idea that black" names are just automatically inferior to "white European" names, which is some bull****, frankly. A black character on TV ought to be named whatever the hell they can be named, like any white character can.

you are correct --my bad about the Arabic name part.

Do you even know about the J-B initial thing. My question derived from the fact that James Bond, Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer have the same initials so I would assume this character would have the same. And since Jamal is popular in the black community.....

So you got me on the one item, not the other.
