Did anyone really know who Kiefer Sutherland was or if he was capable??

When the series first debuted, I doubt any of us expected him to be a hit or his character to end up where he is now, and I'm sure most doubt he would be believable. Same with the new guy. You obviously got your doubts, but only because you're comparing him to Kiefer Sutherland, who has 9 seasons behind him. I thought tonight's episode was great! I loved the cast, it was believable, and I think Corey Hawkins is more then capable! The music really sells it tho! I think Sean Callery is up there with the likes of John Williams and Hans Zimmer. He brought new music to this instead of retreading old stuff from the earlier seasons. I'm looking forward to where Hawkin's character goes.

Wait, say what? Did anyone know what Kiefer was in 2001???? He'd been a veteran movie actor for about 18 years, who was quite popular particularly from The Lost Boys, Stand by Me, Flatliners, and Young Guns which were pretty big youth hits in their time, and had moved into being a tough-guy character actor in stuff like A Few Good Men, Time to Kill, Eye for An Eye, Truth Or Consequences NM. He maybe wasn't A-list "lead," but he was extremely well known and had a dense body of work behind him, had been a peripheral member of the Brat Pack, had dated Julia Roberts so he was very high profile. Again, his "leads" were more second-tier stuff like 1969, Renegaedes, or Flashback, but point is he'd been in DOZENS of fairly well-known movies, and was certainly established as a tough guy/badass type.

If anything, 24 with Kiefer was a little early in the "movie actors doing TV" thing, so even if his film career was mostly character parts by 2001, he was still considered a pretty big "get" for a network TV lead. I don't have anything against the new guy, but it's absurd to say nobody knew what Kiefer could do when he'd been around forever at that point/

Exactly!!! It's a millennial question from someone not around in 2002.

How old are you??? No, really how old are you??? I knew from the second that Kiefer was not only going to be a hit... but was also going to define the role and was already a well known actor with a decent collection of movies under his belt... Corey on the other hand is unproven and sorely lacking.

Of course not.
I didn't watch the show till I saw the middle of Season 4.
What Jack did to the Chinese is messed up.
That's when I finally stated to binge watch from the beginning of season 1 all the way up to 5 and from there kept watching.
So this is the first episode of a new type of main characters we still don't know him yet within 1 hour lol just like the first "24"

i dont even give a *beep* about corey hawkins casting. the show felt good. i was so sick of 24 with jack bauer even though i loved the character. i dont know if it's jack bauer or if it's the same old 24. 24 legacy looks similar but i enjoyed it. maybe it's because i havent seen 24 in years. regardless, the show seemed good and that's all that matters. 24 after season 4 was so fcking bad and i kept watching every season hoping it'd be good again but it's so overplayed. i mean how many fcking times can you hear jack yell "WE HAVE NO TIME," and his look away twitch when it's a tough scene?
