Better than I thought

I'm one of those hardcore 24 fans who was really bothered Sutherland wasn't coming back and had the nerve to throw in some chump to take his place. Its like a James Bond movie without James Bond. But I guess there is only one Jack Bauer and Keifer is it.

Anyway I told myself I would give it a chance and while it feels a bit different without Bauer there it still felt like 24 at least. I think the new guy still has a lot to prove but he didn't make me want to turn off the TV or anything. He reminded me of the old Jack Bauer days in fact when he came off as a more normal guy and not the comic book hero he turned into in later seasons. And I like the other cast around him. The threat is your standard 24 the country is going to explode type of thing but it should be interesting how they handle it.

The only thing that bothers me is why call it 24 if you're not going to show a full day? LAD did the same thing but it didn't really work because it didn't feel like a full day. I get networks are trying to cut back on the full season thing but that was the point of the show. So I'll have to see how that will feel by the end of the season (although won't be talking about it here ;)) but so far intrigued at least.

I think it was a lot better than anybody thought it would be.

It's good but missing Jack Bauer

So what? It's in the same universe as Jack Bauer. He's in the Russian gulag, and eventually this series will either involve Jack's rescue or post-rescue or both.

The show is excellent and to me it revealed the power of the 24 format, present in all 9 previous seasons of 24, that all you need is a really good plot, a good set of characters, and believable intensive situations. And don't worry, we're going to get plenty of cameos and returning characters of the original series soon enough.

I guess I am in the minority here. I watched every episode of the original 24, I think Jack Bauer is one of the most memorable characters to ever grace our TV screens, but I couldn't care less that a new show with the same name and format is made with a different central character. I will still watch it, and from the looks of the first episode, still enjoy it.

Never bothered me for a second that it didn't have Jack Bauer. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't that impressed with the lead actor, but that didn't really hurt the episode much for me. The only thing that kind of annoyed me was going right into "there's a mole at CTU". Seriously? That's just lazy.

I guess I just didn't feel the guy in particular looked the part. True Jack Bauer didn't look like Rambo or anything but he came off as more competent, mature, wiser. This guy kind of look like a young kid who didn't seem to have any real weight. But now that I seen the first episode and understand his background more he fits the part better.

Agreed about the CTU mole thing but it may not be so cut and dry after the second episode.
