Those ratings are disappointing. It's lower than 24 LAD's ratings already (and that aired in the summer without a Super Bowl lead in).

The circumstances are a lot different this time, because of the "no Bauer = no 24" freaks.

What crappy writing? So far the season is very intense and well executed.

Yes, how DARE we expect the writers of this show to END their character storylines before moving forward. How DARE we expect them to finish what they started. What a silly concept, I know. 
