Once again they make a young boy as socially inept. Hasn't this been played out while the older daughter is cooler and hotter. This has been going on since the 80's such as Who's The Boss and Roseanne.

shareI think they are attempting the opposite. The daughter is the socially awkward one and the son is the more popular one. He just wouldn't have been my first choice as the cool popular boy, she is perfect for an awkward teenage girl though.
