Not one but two rich neurotic Jewish males, a dumb blonde, a militant teenage girl, a goth teenage girl, a tough Latina veteran and preteen who doesn't realize yet that he's gay.
All they need is a black gang-banger and an Asian who's a genius at science but has no social skills.
Can't we get past racism as comedy?

I don't think you know what racism is. A group of people with diverse personalities and occupations isn't it.
It actually is if that group of characters (not "people") carefully but not originally follows racist stereotypes for laughs.
As an update, in episode four I think, the one where Penelope buys a car, they brought out that (of course) the ex-husband is a PTSD riddled violent veteran of Afghanistan which is why she had to divorce him. I find that stereotype particularly offensive because my son carried a machine gun in Afghanistan for two tour, being required to both kill and watch comrades die and yet he's one of the most peaceful and mentally healthy people I know.

Are you ignoring the fact that the mother is veteran too, and appears healthy and stable. Some veterans do suffer from PTSD, and that's what the series shows. Not all, but some. Don't those suffering in this way have a right to be represented without being called a stereotype. And some stereotypes exist for a reason. Not saying they are all good, but they aren't all the worst thing in the world.
I do not think that the OP actually knows what a "stereotype" is, which I guess is exactly the unstated point of your response.
Besides, I do not see the two neurotic jewish males or the pre-teen boy who does not know he is gay. I think the doctor is pretty standard fare for a middle aged jewish doctor but Schnieder is completely new: a player with a heart of gold. Alex is not gay either.
Maybe the OP needs to watch more than one or two episodes. Or buy a dictionary.

@twelve_bar. Unfortunately we "can't get past racism as comedy" because this is a Norman Lear production and he has tragically made a life long career of doing precisely that.

So true.
