Ok, so a middle-aged woman steps out on her dodgy husband with a stranger and her punishment is a vicious sexual assault by a jealous work colleague. Great message from Louise Doughty! Why is it ALWAYS the women who pay? I am glad that I didn't waste my money buying her book and I deeply regret the hour I wasted watching this pile of crap.
The book is fantastic...a great exploration of the human condition...and i think the men pay pretty highly for their actions here too. The author can do what she likes with her characters...she has no responsibility to send messages...its how you interpret it.

If I had, I would have given Apple Tree Yard a wide berth. By the way, since when did having an opinion on something become 'moaning'? Although we clearly have differing views on this subject, my opinion is just as valid as yours, even though you don't like it.

I thought the first episode of Apple Tree Yard was obnoxious garbage, I am entitled to my opinion and I did not waste my time on the rest of the series. Others disagreed with my viewpoint. I dont think the author meant for the rape as Karma for the affair. Why don't you finish watching the whole series before making that judgement.

Using rape as a plot device in a hammy psych thriller is really cheap and nasty.
The men also suffer here, greatly, especially at the end.
