A terrible start

The dialogue was like a school report and the pacing just odd. If you can't be bothered making a decent drama, just make a documentary about her. The ringtone scene was the nail in the coffin, though. I know it was supposed to have happened but it just made the whole thing look even more stupid. It's such a great cast too, what a waste of talent.

It was absurd, stupid and happened in real life. What do you expect the producers to do?

It's that man again!!

reply

Exactly - the producers got it just about right and so far it's very accurate to the events that really happened.
For anyone who wants to find out more about the real Shannon Matthews story and to find out just how close to reality this drama is, there's a documentary showing on ID channel in the UK at the moment called 'Faking it - Tears of a Crime'.
The programme covers Karen Matthews' suspicious behaviour during the Shannon debacle and also the lies surrounding the murder of Tia Sharp, another poor young girl who suffered a far worse fate than Shannon Matthews.

I saw the Tia Sharp one on "Britain's Darkest Taboos"

reply

Yes Tia Sharp, that was the case I thought this was at first, until I watched it. It was very similar where a relative was the one who kidnapped her and the family or part of the family knew about it. Only difference was poor Tia was killed and Shannon wasn't.

reply

In that case it was the Grandma's boyfriend who Tia thought of as a Grandad, and he went on TV and lied about the whole thing.
