I am just curious... I haven't ever watched a Tyler perry film before. How is this movie performing better at the Box Office that a movie starring Tom *beep* Cruise(or Hanks).
Were his previous Madea films real big hits or is this character really famous or what IDK??
A lot of people like his films and go to watch him and support him ..simple as that ..perhaps a lot of people are now fed up with watching 5ft7 tom cruise beat up people twice his size and get every women twenty years younger than him in the same movies over and over .
I know what film id rather go and watch and it isnt jack reacher
Hello OP the studio Lionsgate had a smart marketing strategy open Boo the week BEFORE Halloween to create buzz. Next, since Halloween is an unofficial holiday make profit on that weekend. The studio strategy worked. Also Madea has CROSSED OVER the studio said 40% of the audience was NOT African American they were White, Asians, Latinos ect.

Consider yourself lucky.

My guess: Jack Reacher 2 just didn't click with audiences and many felt uncalled for since the first film was only a modest success. Inferno was yet another sequel that came out too long after the previous installment (Angels & Demons) and not many people had very much interest. As for Madea, Perry and the character has a large built in following plus it caters to the lowest of common denominators and they will show up in large numbers.

His previous Madea movies were big hits, due to their low production costs. Madea Goes To Jail is his biggest ($90 million domestic...I still can't believe that movie made that much.) The character is famous among (some, but not all of) the African-American demo since the character spawned from his popular stage plays which lead to the first Madea movie, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and it was off to the races from there. reply share
celluloidadmirer and every negative person here, you suck. you can take your comments and insert them into your anus. if you do not like madea or tyler perry, then simply do not watch it/him.
i dont think this material is meant to be high brow by any means. i have laughed at many parts of madeas films. i wasnt stating that there needed to be oscars thrown at him. sometimes dumb humor is ok..... and yes you can have your own opinion. its just a glass half empty opinion, in my opinion.

It's not that simple. If people keep paying to see crap, the studios will keep making crap and the rest of us who want better products will suffer. Why do you think Friedberg & Seltzer kept making movies.

I have no issue with low brow, dumb humor but when it's just blatantly lazy, unfunny, witless, cleverless and caters to the lowest common denominator, that's a problem. Animal House is low brow yet it was clever and witty at the same time.

I think what you said is absolutely and precisely to the point. I mean I haven't watched this particular film, but I absolutely agree with your statements. Low brow comedies have to be good too. Doesn't mean if a comedy is low brow then it can afford to be bad. Nope. Studios will continue making terrible movies like these, and the power of movies and cinemas will continue cooking towards its end. Another low brow comedy can be Scary Movie. And wow is it funny and witty and everything, but this Made a film we can all tell, is terrible.
The trailer was very misleading. And the past Madea movies were much funnier. This one is just plain lame. Watch the trailer and save yourself about an hour and a half.
