The Hunter storyline

seems a bit....convenient/lazy. I mean out of all the "feminists" he doesn't go after their leader and main person that's he's interacted with from that club? really? Goldi is such an insignificant character in his revenge despite being the person that got his gaming thing shut down?

reply

And why didn't he call her out on her hypocrisy. How is allowing her religion to degrade her portraying any type of feminist views?

reply

In general that's less her religion and more the nut jobs that use religion to be nut jobs. I mean the KKK are a christian based organisation but are racist nut jobs, westboro also christian but homophobic nut jobs, fundamentalists mormons polygamists nut jobs, etc all of them can find parts of the bible to support their beliefs. Same issue with islam currently, historically a lot of the muslim world was far further ahead on womens rights than europe was but various destabilizations occurred along with nut jobs coming into power that use death, brutality and rape as their weapons leaving a culture that for a large part see's women as property rather than. Religion and culture aren't the same thing, I mean look at Indonesia, it's a vast majority muslim country with some 200mil people, still in 2001 they elected Megawati as president, one of the few female presidents to ever be elected in the modern world...granted Indonesia does have a tonne of other issues in regards to women but that's from traditional asian views on the womens role in society more than anything else given the same issues are fairly universal throughout the whole region.

Having said all that though, organised religion is stupid, at it's core it's a "im right your wrong" game against every other religion when really no religion has any more truth in it than any other...hence the whole faith thing.

Still the whole Hunter story line is lazy, Maya barely engages with him at all about the gaming thing, Goldi does, Goldi's also the leader of the feminist club but he completely ignores her just so the story can have him blackmailing Zig over a video because a gamer is actively hacking into everyones cloud accounts.....

reply

Yeah, that made no sense to me either.

reply

It makes perfect sense actually. Going after Gouldi? I believe her name is because that would have been a completely different storyline. Yes it would have been online bullying, however, it would have also become a hate crime because of Gouldi's religion. Sad but true. I don't know if the show is/was willing to deal with that right off the bat in season one. I mean I could be wrong they dealt with school shootings so it can only get more intense but y'know

reply

Because who got them sent to the principals office. Maya. She was there in the room with Hunter and his geek squad when he got exposed. I think he just saw her as an easy target to take his anger out on. Goldi was on his kill list too.

reply

The kill list didn't happen til after he was exposed for bullying Maya, it wasn't part of his revenge for his club being disbanded even though Goldi was the figurehead of that and did the majority of talking on that topic with Hunter...meanwhile he ignored her completely.

It was lazy writing to create the story that linked hunter/maya/zig/zoe/grace storylines into a bigger storyline despite not being particularly well formed or logical.

reply

Even though the show doesn't specifically point this out Hunter's friend Baaz who also helps him troll Maya is Goldi's younger brother. They share the same last name and it's not a common last name. I'm assuming he wouldn't have helped if they were torturing his older sister so they picked Maya because she was an easy target.

reply

Wow. I didn't even notice that. Thanks for clarifying that. :)
