The theme song is terrible. The obsessive need to put social media/ talk in every scene grids my nerves. "Haters gonna hate." "T-Swift." "His feed." "Hashtag blessed." The dialog is just not the way people actually talk. If I'm not wrong, Maya, Zig, Tristan and that group of people are juniors and Frankie, Lola, etc are sophomores. So who are the seniors and the freshman? Triles is just ugh. Hate them together. I'm glad Simpson back though. And the Degrassi awkwardness didn't change. Still gonna watch the show but still

Yeeeeep. Exactly. Granted, I'm 10 years out of high school and all this social media stuff (for the most part) wasn't around when I was there. But I still highly doubt people talk like this to that extent.

And I agree, the theme song is horrific.

Maybe I'm just pissy because the original degrassi(s) were so much better. I'll keep watching to see how I feel by the end of the season, but as of now it's definitely not the same old degrassi I loved watching before.

I work at a restaurant where, I hate to say, most of our clientele is teenagers and young adults and I can attest that they actually do talk like this lol.

Sometimes it's a little cringe inducing. But I've experienced it.

Unfortunately people do talk like that. Even worse in some areas like my ghetto àss high school. Times are changing, mate. You just have to deal with it. Social media is a huge thing right now so of course, they're going to include it a lot in a show about teenagers in high school.

Agreed. This show (well I should say the pilot because that's all I've seen) has not proven itself worthy of the Degrassi name I think. The new theme is horrible and I mean HORRIBLE. the new story lines introduced were terribly written; a subplot about a girl worried about her butt- seriously? The dialogue is cringeworthy with all this post-technology meta talk (I'm in HS, nobody I knows actually talks like this to this degree). The worst thing is, I don't find any of the characters relatable or charming. They're all so melodramatic with their petty drama and horrible dialogue.

Lol but even with all this complaining I know I'll still watch it.

Revision: as much as I tore this show apart in my previous post, I really enjoyed watching it. The storylines were good, the acting got better and the characters grew more on me. Im thinking the pilot was just a dud IMO but the rest of the season I loved and I'm excited for season 2

Same lol. I actually really enjoyed the season. The first episode wasn't that good but imo they redeemed themselves throughout the next episodes. I still hate the theme song but I liked the rest of the season

I was thinking the same thing about the theme song! Why did they mess it up? It's an okay series but I also agree it just doesn't have that Degrassi charm.

I actually like the new music too!

However, the social media theme is overdone IMHO. I like the photos/videos, but not really the comments and emoticons all over it.

At least at my high school, people actually talk like that. Hashtag this, hashtag that, snap-chatting every little thing, social media talk 24/7. It's annoying, but relatable, so I think it's an attempt to appeal to the new generation. I don't like the new theme song, however. They should've just added some new instruments to the original instead of completely redoing it.

While I really don't mind the theme song I think they still should've kept the last one. That was my favorite. Other than that, I think the show is pretty ok. As far as the social media theme, we live a social media obsessed society where EVERYTHING is revolved around social media especially with high school kids. Degrassi is just trying to keep up with the times.
