I have been watched "Degrassi Junior High" all the way up to the "New Class." After spending two days binge watching the new season, I can honestly say that "Degrassi" is FINALLY back to being "Degrassi." It was amazing to watch the show tackle hard hitting subject matter head on again. I became very bored last season with the less than shocking storylines, but am happy it is back!
I remember their show "the best years" back from when they were "the-n". That show was canceled after season 1 then brought back when the producers and writers agreed to tone it down. Then it got canceled because it sucked
So It wouldn't surprise me if TeenNick wanted it to be less intense.
I think they have more control without TeenNick behind it.
I mean they used "the C-Word" (the actual term "C-Word", not the real word it's self) on this new version
That's something I don't think we would have seen if it had stayed on teenNick
Maybe yes, maybe no. Remember in the Original Recipe (Degrassi Junior High & Degrassi High) that 'broomhead' was the worst type of insult. They never pushed the envelope until the Degrassi "School's Out" movie, that predated DTNG by around 10 year. I do think that it being on Netflix will allow for stronger language and possible partial nudity/sexual situations, that The-N and even Canadian TV would not have allowed before.
It pushed the envelope far before School's Out. Just because there was no swearing doesn't mean it wasn't cutting edge for the time. In the 80's a kid in junior high getting pregnant was shocking, the AIDS episode came around during a time when people legitimately thought that only gay men got AIDS. The Abortion episodes were so controversial it got severely edited in the US.
Was it controversial by today's standards no. But part of the reason teen shows go further now is because of Degrassi.
Its something you'll get used to a mental mind *beep* can be nice!

Cool, someone else who remembers The Best Years!
Season 1 was awesome (I have it on DVD). And yes, the changes in Season 2 were horrid.

I felt the opposite. Maybe it is because I'm older, now, but this season felt very melodramatic. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't compare it to the original cast of The Next Generation (I have never seen Degrassi Junior High or any of the original, original series).
