I grew up with Emma and Manny's generation. As such, I identify the best with them. I recall when Spinner got a boner in class and the message revolving around how it was just a part of growing up. As teens, we can't control that and it's perfectly fine. And just about anything can cause them 'cause...well, hormones don't discriminate. Spinner boner storyline was handled the same as Shay's period storyline. It's a part of our bodies we shouldn't be ashamed of.
But the way THIS was handled felt like it was for "OMG, Hunter cheating?!?" purposes. Um....no. Involuntary boners are NOT a form of cheating. Hunter had no emotional and no physical relationship with Lola on that level. A person rubbed his pants and the expected outcome happened. The only concern is how Hunter tried to get rid of Lola because of HIS boner and Yael's feelings. Lola was an innocent bystander who honestly wanted to let the situation slide. But, the boys deemed her "a threat to Hunter and Yael" so they tossed her away without much discussion. I know we're suppose to believe the Gamer Club ISN'T misogynistic but....that was pretty misogynist. She's more than just a make-up vlod. SHE'S THE GIRL WHO SAVED THEIR YOUTUBE CHANNEL!!
But, based on Yael's reaction, I don't blame them!! Yael says she wants to be "just one of the guys" and yet puts Hunter on a break for something a guy can't control. She stopped making the lie an issue and instead focused on the boner as if it represented Hunter cheating. I commend her for not being one of THOSE girls who blame the innocent bystander but the way she held it over Hunter's head came off as unreasonable.
I'm personally trying to like Yael as a character but she's just too much. Her hypocrisy makes me appreciate Esme of all people. At least when she's horrible, she's up front about it.
