The right time and place, anything else I should see?
This film was perfect. I go to the cinema to feel something, but usually it's just that I ought to hit the bar or go to bed.
This film made me cry. No film but Grave of the Fireflies has ever overcome my tears suppression reflex.
I hadn't seen Hiroshi Abe since Survive Style 5+ (is that criminal of me? Let me know what I should catch up on) and I liked him then, but couldn't really judge him seriously.
This film just seemed perfect in this time in my life. It was so astoundingly natural, and I couldn't help but think of my own family and my own mistakes.
The only thing I can think of that resonated so strongly was Tarkovsky's "Mirror" but in a more abstract way.
With "After the Storm" I went in with few expectations, but left completely blown away.
