Mark Wahlberg doesn’t even try to be a character
He’s just Mark Wahlberg in everything. How do people like this call themselves actors?

shareTry doing the same scene for 100 times and then comeback the next day and do a similar scene 100 times...then you will know there is more to acting than just range...and it’s not for everyone..it takes a lot of self belief and confidence.
shareRidley Scott doesn’t do a lot of takes, he’s not David Fincher. Walhberg just acts the words on the page, real actors don’t act words. Like Stella Adler said “You are not acting words!”
shareNot about him, who cares what it took for him, it's about the audience. We see him play the same fast-talking caricature every time. It detracts from the authenticity because Chace has been molded into a Wahlberg rather than the other way around.
shareSo you want him to stop making money wnd being rich just because you dont like him?
shareNo... that 'is' him trying to be a character 😂
shareAt least not since "Fear" & "Boogie Nights" a year apart.
Not life & death of course, but, an American tragedy nonetheless. So much promise down the shitter in 20 years.
I'm glad other people are questioning his abilities. It's bothered me for years. I always thought maybe it was me, and I just couldn't see what everyone else saw in him. Not that I find him talentless or insufferable, I think he's just decidedly average and lacks charisma. Like the OP says, he's the same guy in everything. He was no different here to the character he played in Patriot's Day and countless other films I've seen him in. He's one note. Always comes across as bored to me, a bit flat. He'd be better suited to TV than movies in my opinion. I'd liked to have seen someone like Toby Stephens in this role rather than Mark Wahlberg playing "that guy" again.
