What happened at the very beginning?

Just my luck, the one time I get to the theatre a few minutes after the scheduled start is the one time that there aren't fifteen minutes of commercials and previews. Anyway, I don't think I missed much. The first scene I saw was of young Paul talking to the prostitutes on the street. Did anything happen before that?

Not really... He was shown hanging out in Italy, walking along one of the boulevards...

Did you see a scene with Getty in the desert, coming out of a train and meeting some Arabs? I can't remember if that scen was before or after, it was a sequence saying how he made his money...
