Spoilers. Please explain something to me. Disappointing ending.

I understand how the events around the shooting of a documentary end up making up a big part of the story. It is also clear to me that the tickling contests were much more than what they seemed and that D’Amato is the bad guy here. However, I feel like there’s something missing, a part of the puzzle. What are D’Amato’s motives for harassing the young men? It seemed to me like he didn’t become aggressive and didn’t release all the videos and info he had on them until they wanted out, but he was already in possession of the videos. Even when they didn’t make the videos anymore, years after he would still ruin their lives. Why? Why would he do that? What does he get out of it? I guess it could be that he wants to make sure they keep making the videos, but sometimes he would threaten them years after they didn’t make them anymore. Maybe it was because he’s only onscreen for like 5 minutes, but I can’t understand this person or his actions. Because of this, it seems to me as if the documentary wasn’t finished. Sorry for the long rant, and I would love to know what you think.

I guess you're right. The little I saw of him reminded me of Robert Durst. The family money, the mental issues, the crimes, the impunity.

The documentary will never be truly over until D'Amato is dead. Someone like him won't stop. I guarantee you he has already created a new female alias to go about manipulating and harassing young men. He's a psychopath. This documentary was very interesting and disturbing.

He's a pervert. It's just like pedophilia or any other number of sexual/social disorders.

"What are D’Amato’s motives for harassing the young men?"

There are pornographers that hide the identities of their stars, and then there are people like D'Amato. I suspect he still wanted them either to make videos, or it was the final act of humiliating them (there ARE in a fact a lot of sick, sadistic people in BDSM and tickling who get off on that element--not mutually consensual thrills).

Why does anyone humiliate and terrorize other people sexually on the internet?

It isn't finished because the law is finally aware of who he is but he had investors and money...and there are pornographers just like him.

It's sad, really. The audience gives monsters their power by ostracizing, firing, or otherwise turning their backs on victims who just think they're making a few extra bucks. That's the point.

What's there to know? He's sitting in his apartment jerking off to tickling videos all day long

The ending makes it clear. He was severly bullied as a kid. And as a lot of bully victims, he's made the torment into a fetish.

It's pretty obvious from the get-go. Who tickles? Kids tickle. As torture, as play. Anyone obsessed with tickling at a grown age has childhood issues.

He grew up to become a bully, in several ways. Primarily in physically abusing people through tickling and THEN abusing them online...

Case closed. No?

Exactly, it was about having dominance over these big strong men..

The trivia says he is dead now...
