... he condoned the behaviour of the boys, he blamed the girls, he said that unless the girls actively fought them off then they were giving the boys permission to have sex with them, he was relieved that the boys were able to move on with their lives.
I was thinking the same thing! Made me want to go through a huge party in that town, get them all drunk and have unspeakable things done to them, video it and if they dared to whine reply with 'you didn't fight back or say no'... Just cause you were unconsciously drunk is no excuse- you wanted to have sex with that donkey... Sorry- this doc has made me want to make a girl squad of vigilantes...
The documentary obviously tried to portray him as awful, but considered on their own, many of his points were completely right. They were ill-timed and insensitive within the context of this story, but they were not wrong (your mis-remembering of his comments notwithstanding).
Go rewatch it, that is not even close to what he said, "basically" or otherwise.
Honestly, assuming everyone is an actual or potential rapist undermines the seriousness of actual instances of rape. It creates a atmosphere of paranoia that helps no one.
He too suggested that the word "rape" was used too freely ... I've watched it and rewatched it .. we obviously have a very different interpretion of what was said
No one is calling the man a rapist. I don't think you understand the initial point OP was trying to make. What they were saying was that a lot of predators use that same logic-- blaming the victim and sympathizing with perpetrators, assuming that women are attention seeking liars-- is also the same garbage that the sheriff was saying. It's an observation, not an accusation and you seem to be taking it as an accusation. No one here is demanding this man be taken to trial for rape.
Just fyi...a lot of women DO assume that men are potential rapists. Maybe not in the context you're thinking and not in every circumstance. But Women have to constantly be vigilant. During certain parts of the day, commuting home from work, running out late at night to run errands, maybe coming home from a bar, we have to assume, unfortunately, that the crowd of drunk men shouting behind us are a potential threat. There are a lot of reasons why we have to do that because if we do not, and we are actually harmed, then we are blamed for being attacked and for not being "responsible" or careful enough or w/e.
Regardless of whether or not the man is a rapist, he's still a rape apologist dbag who sympathized with the rapists and accused the girls of lying and being just as responsible for crime as the rapists were (lmao wut?)
Yes, he's a rape apologist like many of the people supporting Trump. They blame the victim. Or don't believe her or trot out anything that validates that the victim brought it upon themselves.
I agree with you about the sheriff. I don't have a problem with him reciting the facts of the case. When he said like it or not, the law says consensual sex at that age isn't against the law in Missouri, I'm fine with it.
But when he said things like, girls often need to seek attention and girls need to be blamed cuz they went there late at night--then I have a huge problem with that. I believe whenever the sheriff put his opinions in, he really showed what kind of scumbag he is.
Why...why do you have to bring Trump into the thread? I'm so tired of people generalizing and stereotyping an entire group. People who says things like that about a lot of Trump supporters are huge effin hypocrites. I'm so tired of hearing Trump supporters being equated with only negativity.
And...this is coming from somebody who didn't even vote for the guy!
Please stop bringing Trump into every single thread!
Yes, we can all see that however its not intended to be taken literally. Its intention was meant to ask people about their observations and if they too recognized similar patterns.
The sheriff implied that they were responsible because they partied and got drunk with these guys. Like they can't control themselves and if a women is drunk. Then of course that is fair game and she brought it on herself. The sheriff was a scumbag that make excuses for rapists. If it was his daughters he wouldn't make the same excuses. The girl was passed out drunk. Her blood alcohol level was near alcohol poisoning level. And that was her blood alcohol when they found her the next day.It was probably higher that night.Yet,the sheriff didn't think it was rape.Nobody can consent if they're passed which she would have to be with a blood alcohol level that high.
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.
I loved that it even showed him driving his young daughters to high school... Does he tell them the same things... That if you're intoxicated, it's kind of your fault too? He made the comments about they pretty much need to move on and, "better themselves ",implying that because the boys went to college and, "moved on"they were dealing with their actions, and Daisy wasn't being the bigger person somehow? So incredibly terrible in so many ways.
