I didnt knew about Oj before he became infamous. I had heard that he was a great football player and an actor.
But after watching the fitst episode, its easy to understand why so many americans REFUSED to believe that he was guilty. He is so convincing as a nice, humble "boyscout" that you actually dont want to believe that hes a murderer.
I actually think that frightens me the most. The fact that Oj is so good at "acting nice" and manipulating people. That level of psychopathy is pretty terrifying.
I knoiw. Ive been a victim of one myself. I think the creepy part is that when you see OJ in the first episode, you genuinly dont want to believe that he is guilty.
I recognise that psychopath/sociopath is a very overused term. Primarly because people seem to believe that you need to lack empathy in order to do immoral actions. "Normal" people is perfectly capable of that to.
In OJs case its hard to find another diagnosis though. The guy is a pathogical liar (he even denies that he has beaten nicole), he lacks remorse, he only xares about himself (he doesnt seem to care about his kids wellbeing) and he uses people until theyre not of use to him anymore.
I could be wrong ofc. But its hard to find another explabation for his actions.
OJ is one of those which came first the chicken or the egg questions?
1. Was OJ a narcissistic psychopathic killer because of his poor surroundings/upbringing? OR 2. Was OJ a narcissistic psychopathic killer because of the adulation spewed upon him by millions of fans?
I think it's mostly #2: It was the adulation that allowed him to really believe in the greatness of "OJ". Once his star began to fade his downfall was very swift and steep.
I think OJ was always a psychopath. He mistreated his first wife. His behavior when he was younger all suggests the same thing. The guy that can say the right thing, but he doesn't actually mean any of it. He was always that guy. It just became easier for him as he became richer and more well known and he could get away with more with his friends and with women. I don't think it was the lessening of his fame with quitting football and not being a very good actor that caused him to somehow turn into a psychopath. He was a psychopath long before that.
Not all psychopaths murder people. It just led to that. He abused people in his circle for years, including his former wife and other women. He doesn't see people as people with feelings. He sees them as part of how he is viewed by the outside world, so Nicole leaving embarrassed him. So he killed her.
Agree completely. Let's not forget Nicole's friend who said she came home with her pants torn from him being "kinda forceful" after just a couple dates, which was long before his fame started waning. His the textbook narcissistic abuser, and the only way I think Nicole could have survived leaving him would have been if she'd gone into hiding/relocated, but that would have been very difficult given his friends in LE and the fact that they had two young kids together.
Possibly the 2nd worst part of these murders is the fact that his children could have easily been the ones to find the bodies. Thank goodness that didn't happen.
