That Tom Cruise Thriller that came out a few years ago

E.g. Killing your target then 7 random one's to hide your true target. Plus it was over real estate etc etc

It's been done numerous times. Allegedly, it was the Washington Sniper's plan too.

The main plot device is a lot older than Jack Reacher.
It was the basis of "The A.B.C. Murders" by Agatha Christie - first published 1936...

Overall a good series. Not a great finale though.

I think it will be better in the second season with a different long-running arc and murder. They weren't quite sure how to balance Marcella's mental state, the murders and her family issues as well as I would have liked.
