I really liked Marcella and here's why (spoilers)

I just binged this series on Netflix and it was really good. I liked the series but I didn't love it and here's what I liked and what I didn't like.

First off, Marcella is a very strong character and a conflicted character. This draws you in immediately. Some series you have to watch and wait for the story to kick in but I watched like 4 episodes back to back because Marcella is a very strong character.

She small with an oversized coat but she fearless and violent at times which makes her very interesting.

I liked the cast but the story was lopsided at times.

I thought they could have explored her blackouts more. They tried a lot of misdirection and sometimes they failed because they tried to do too much and the story became convoluted.

Lastly, I don't think Henry should have confessed at the end. It was just too neat. I would have liked to have seen him denying he was involved but still being found guilty and sent to jail.

Next season in the second or third episode he finally confesses to Marcella and then he's killed in jail. Henry didn't come across as the type who would just admit to everything and conveniently explain all that happened in the last few minutes.

I give it an 7 out of 10 and I really, really hope it's renewed.

I agree that Marcella is a compelling character. Despite some problems, I found a lot to like and would watch a second season if it is renewed.

Yep, I like shows with strong leads that pull you in right away like Dexter, Walter White or Tony Soprano. Marcella is nowhere near these characters but the character is strong enough to get more seasons. If they tighten up the writing it will be even better.

As the other poster said, Marcella is a compelling show with a compelling lead character. But I agree, the writing needs to be tighter. A lot of characters where introduced, seeming just to set up the show for future seasons. And a lot of plot holes were left in this season. Again, likely for setting up additional seasons more so than red herrings for this one.
