Out of curiosity, is it really plausible that a victim's brother could have recognized his watch in a jewlery/pawn store window?
shareKnowing that his brother's watch was taken, the police would be looking for that make and model watch to turn up in pawn shops. The brother may not have known it was his dead brother's watch, but it's certainly reasonable that he knew it matched that watch and that the police should check it out.
Or, we don't know, the writers may image the brother went into the pawn shop himself, with the serial number of the stolen watch, and checked on his own.
