I thought for sure her DNA on may during the post mortem would show the switcheroo she pulled.
Given that Mae was found face down in water, they likely assumed any DNA on her face or in her mouth had been washed away. So didn't bother to take or compare samples from them.

I'm so glad the dog was with the old man as I really don't think he could have handled the filming of 'being killed'...and old people are mostly such lovable people.
