Totally agreed. One of the writers also wrote the Swedish/Danish show The Bridge and that has many red herrings and subplots to confuse and distract but it's an amazing show I'd recommend it to anyone if you haven't watched it already.
Nope. At the start of every episode I had a real struggle remembering the obfuscatory plot. It was like that probe they sent into space with the dodgy lense. Not fit for the purpose.
I have to feel a little sorry for Anna Friel. I imagine the TV Gods handing her a shovel and pointing towards a barn door telling her: "hit that, love, and we'll give you a hit prime time show." And it still wouldn't happen.
You are definitely not alone. We did not have a clue what was going on and ended up doubting whether some of the earlier plot lines were even in Marcella or another programme altogether. Ultimately though it really was just a mess. I do not think this deserves a second series.
Why Henry killed more people after Grace or tried to set up Matt....that just caused him to get caught, he could have stopped at Grace and he wouldn't have been caught likely
Since he was copy catting Peter Cullen you figure it would have been easier just to let the police suspect him. They almost did.
Plus all those sociopaths 3 if I count correctly.
And why the hell was Henry carrying around Grace's cocaine locket so that it was ripped off by the sex worker? You think he would either get rid of it or keep it safe to set up Matt later.
You are totally not alone. I think it's high praise that we stuck with it since it seemed to be one red herring attached to a killing time and time again. I can't follow the dots or even remember the dots but after finally giving in sometime during the second episode I decided to just go with it and found it well acted, engaging as it was so complicated and it got me away from obsessing about the state of the real world. I've never seen so many really flawed characters and much sickness. It verged on the old term 'camp', I might watch it again to see if I can connect the dots any better but i think there were so many disconnected plot points that it doesn't really matter.
I binge watched the first season yesterday. I'm going to watch the season again today. Someone suggested making a list of characters and who has done what. I hate to admit it, but I may do that. It's such a LARGE cast of suspects, sociopaths and dodgey characters. In the end the big question is about Marcella moving Grace's body: Marcella did so in a blackout state but the doctor said she shouldn't remember any of it - well she remembered where she placed Grace's body. I enjoy being challenged by whodunits but I don't like the feeling like I missed something - on the other hand we still have to be missing some of the pieces and the moving of Grace is the biggest. IF I come of with a list I'll post it.
The guy supervising Cullen, had a stab would in the shoulder..Then he was forgotten. That really annoyed me..Too many killers in one show. Then Henry confesses and thats it? SIGH
