It's totally magic!
Question from Canada - can you park anywhere in the UK and/or London on either side of the street? Or just certain areas?
I was also curious about this as I noticed cars parked nose-to-nose in Marcella and also in Sherlock. Here in New Zealand you can only park facing the direction that the traffic is flowing.
shareLondon and most cities in the UK have very limited on street parking. We have yellow lines, double yellow lines (you'll get a fine or wheel clamped if you park there) and red lines in London.
I live in Bath and the only parking in the city centre is multistorey and costs a fortune- you couldn't park your car and leave it overnight without expecting a bill almost as expensive as a fine!
Where I live it's at the top of town where there are all Georgian builds and side roads. They are all mostly permit parking only and to complicate things further, we have 'zones' so the permit is only valid in that zone. So if I have no parking spaces outside my property, I'm screwed as the next road along is a different zone ?.
However the further out you are from city centres and built up ares, the easier the parking. My parents bought an extra garage and can park anywhere they like.

Immediate parking has been a mainstay of movies and TV for decades; it is certainly nothing new or unique to this program. I question your observational acumen if this is a new phenomenon for you, that or perhaps you haven't seen many movies or TV programs made from the 1930s to contemporary times. Deal with it.
