Does it meet the 4 rules of Christmas movies?

I’ve posted this before, but here are my 4 rules for Hallmark/Netflix/romantic Christmas movies:

1. Good script
2. Chemistry between the leads
3. Great Christmas music
4. Evoke a Christmas feeling

This movie’s strongest element is rule #2. The leads work so well together, and their first kiss in the elevator was great. Rule #1, a good script, is weaker. It breaks no new ground, her fiancé is horrible cliched, and the kiss with the old lady is, well, simply horrible (although I love Doris Roberts). Still, it works.

Rules 3 and 4 seem to have been thrown out the window. The music is typical for this kind of movie, but it could’ve touched on Christmas more. Finally, regarding rule 4, Merry Kissmas falls way short. It’s a sweet movie, but take away the lights and Nutcracker play and it would play just as well.

Overall, Merry Kissmas is what you’d expect and it manages to hit the right notes, primarily due to the likable leads. You could do worse.
