Character breakdown - yikes!

Analyzing the characters on this show reveals a very pessimistic view of humanity.

Axel - Marine awaiting further orders; protects Vanessa and the Doc at all costs; had no reservations about murdering vamps and people (even kids.) Presumed dead from vamp mauling and radiation exposure.

John - trouble-maker and wanna-be rapist; switches sides in an instant to get an advantage; angry about the murder of his wife by vamps when the group would not turn over Vanessa to them; was framed for several murders by Sam. Stabbed to death by Vanessa.

The Doc - coroner; was turned after being bitten while preventing a fellow survivor from re-entering the hospital during a vamp attack; saved and protected by Axel; turned human by Vanessa; shut the door on Axel when he was just seconds from safety due her extreme fear and cowardice. Now on her own and immune from being vamped again.

Flesh - Fantasized about killing his family before the Rising while still human; was turned, killed his young children then left his wife alive to grieve them; attacked Vanessa and was turned back into a human. Left the group to make a stand at Eden.

Sam - Deaf man traveling with Mohamad; has been a serial killer who prefers to strangle his victims and cut off their fingers as a souvenir since childhood; has no remorse for his crimes; left for dead after having his knees sliced by Vanessa; turned by vamp and now on the hunt for revenge.

Susan - abused by her father as a child; lived a loose life style; made bad choices of male partners, but was friends with Vanessa; was vamped and attacked Vanessa; turned human again; got to shoot her vampire dad in the head; murdered by Sam.

Mohamad - scrappy survivor; best friends with Sam until Sam was exposed as a serial killer; trying to find his sister Sheema; still fighting.

Vanessa - descendant of Van Helsing (she does not know this yet); gifted fighter (no training required); Wolverine-like healing abilities; immune to vamp bites; can turn vamps into humans/kill them with her bodily fluids; looking for her daughter; appeared to die on the day of the Rising, but awoke from a coma three years later; still fighting and heading for Denver.

Sheema - sister of Mohamad; the pet of vampire Rebecca; betrayed the human resistance and lied about their leader resulting in humans killing their own innocent leader. Still living that we know of.

Nothing about this show exudes any positive character traits.

Every time Axel tried to do something positive, he is stabbed in the back by those he tried to help.

John, and his group, is led to the hospital by Axel's Marine buddy, who then lets the vampires (or their surrogates) in, leading to the death of members of the group, and, ultimately, the Marine, who was turned, psychologically. The group then turns on Axel.

Vanessa rescues a new group, they get into Axel's compound, and within days, have Axel and the others locked up again. That group plans to kill Axel and the others, which is why he was 'willing' to 'kill women and children'.

The doctor, whom Axel had saved, later leaves him to die.

Nope, not a 'rosy' image at all.

Update:

Mohamad - scrappy survivor; best friends with Sam until Sam was exposed as a serial killer; trying to find his sister Sheema; Exposed as a traitor working for the vamps.
