yeah, i just find it really hard to imagine this movie being good because now they are past the books so they are making a movie based just on an outside resource, a screenplay??? kind of like how any new star wars movie outside of the books is probably bad. i don't think i'ts a good idea to make movies outside of book's stories.

reply

It's a book, it was just written by a different author.

reply

why would they do that? i've never heard of that before. gosh that's worse than making a movie remake or sequel bc books are supposed to be original more so than movies.

reply

It's not unprecedented.

A few years ago the Agatha Christie estate brought in the mystery writer Sophie Hannah to pen new novels with Agatha Christie's most famous detective, Hercule Poirot.

Or think about it this way: How many new stories with Dracula have popped up since Bram Stoker died in 1912?

I don't really mind it, as long as the new books are actually good.

Bram Stoker died! I hadn't even heard that he was having health problems. Now who's gonna write Lair of the White Worm 2?

reply

oh ok, you changed my mind about this. thanks for that. your'e right there have been countless dracula movies since the first adaptation in 1922, Nosferatu. so this has happened before and it has worked before. about the christie thing, yeah but i wonder how the author after stieg larsson got the rights to write their books? and i wonder if stieg larsson would have liked this author writing their stories based off of his books? and i wonder if he would have liked these books?

In regard to how he got permission to write the book, Wikipedia explains:

The late author's literary estate is fully controlled by Larsson's brother and father, who hired Lagercrantz and have supported the latest book in the series.

Lagercrantz was given free rein by Larsson's estate. He tried to stay true to the series' complex stories with different plotlines but did not attempt to imitate Larsson's "journalistic authoritativeness."

However, Larsson's long-term domestic partner, Eva Gabrielsson, has voiced criticism against this project and referred to Lagercrantz as a "completely idiotic choice" to continue the Millennium series. She possesses an unfinished fourth manuscript of the Millennium series, which is not included in the novel.

When asked about the decision to continue the series after Larsson's death, Sonny Mehta, the president of Knopf — the publisher of all the Millennium books — said, "Lisbeth Salander is one of the heroines, I think, of the 21st century, and a most unlikely heroine. She's brave, she's intrepid, she's unfrightenable, she's got a moral core (...) And I hope people will just welcome the return of this extremely unlikely pair of Salander and this crusading journalist."

As for whether or not Larsson would have liked it, who knows? I guess on that we can only speculate.

I thought the first film was pretty darn good.

I'll certainly give this a chance, though the people involved are completely different.

Which one though? I loved the Noomi Rapace versions.

I heard those were good too, but haven't seen them.

I was thinking of the Fincher theatrical movie.

Didn’t flop with me. Just watched it for the second time in 3 days. Love it. All that matters to me.

Love the Lisbeth Salander character. She is who Batwoman SHOULD be.
