Discovery producer explains why the Klingons changed

Showrunner Aaron Harberts noted that original series showrunner Bryan Fuller was an advocate of updating the look of the Klingons and was involved in the redesign — and that the look of the Klingons has frequently changed over the franchise’s 52 years.

“In the different versions of Trek, the Klingons have never been completely consistent,” Harberts said. “We will introduce several different houses with different styles. Hopefully, fans will become more invested in the characters than worried about the redesign.”

Well, ... this makes Chekov look completely mad in "The Day of the Dove".

Spotting that Klingon agent in "The Trouble with Tribbles" should have been easy.

We have gone from Kang in TOS to the Uruk-hai in Discovery.

reply

Yup, agreed.

Complete bullshit by aaron. This is what happens when you get people running a show with big egos....it's been explained per Canon why the Klingons lost their ridges...

Yea wasn't this explained in Enterprise?

reply

Yeah it was. In the last season.

reply

Yes exactly. Enterprise had an awesome explanation for it.....the ridge klingons were pretty consistent after Tmp...just hair style changes for the most part...

reply

I disagree, the Klingon's looks haven't constantly changed. Other than the Original Series. They look more or less the same from Star Trek The Motion Picture up until Into darkness screwed it up.

reply

Wow. I disagree The klingons were pretty much consistent with the excpetion of ridges being added on their heads during the motion picture of the late 70s. This new redesign of the clingons makes them outright weird like almost reptilian/amphibian looking. One of the clingons shown had aquatic bluish colored skin. These new klingons are not really recognizable to the lay person. Their architecture culture and pysical structure is so differen't these should have been created as a new alien race rather then pretending there a new spin on klingons.

Just look at what they've done. At least if there gonna due this then they should go with them being a distant (really distant) cousin species of klingons that don't carry the same name as klingon.

I couldn't agree more w/you! I just saw the "Klingons," and they look awful!!! Really bad! Why change what was never broken?!?!

I will flip btw this and Fear TWD I guess.

reply

they look freaking awful.

reply

Not an explanation, an excuse.

The new Klingons look like alien turds.

reply

they do look like those turds one deposits after too much spinach.

It doesn't matter what his "explanation" is. The guy screwed up big time. He obviously never watched every episode of every series and every movie. I for one will not be paying to watch this trash.
