Last episode of series **SPOILERS**

CAUTION: SPOILERS AHEAD THAT CAN BE INFERRED EVEN THOUGH I USED SPOILER FORMATTING

Watching as much of this show that I could find has consumed my life over the last few weeks. It's powerful television (even though it seriously jumped the shark in the last episodes of the series). I've never been so attached to a character as I have been to Kemal, but for some reason the writers saw fit to kill him in the final episode of the series just as he had found happiness with Nihan and baby Deniz. My heart is ripped out.

This has gotten me to wondering what is a TV series writer's responsibility to an adoring viewership. This show has a huge following across the world, and even in countries that don't have subtitles in their languages. They invested hours and hours in rooting for Kemal and Nihan's happiness and were stunned with anger that Kemal died.

Should writers who know clearly what a public wants to see follow through with that? Or should they remain true to their vision not caring what the public thinks?

In the writers' defense the title of the show gave clear indication that things wouldn't end prettily. Kara Sevda translates to Black Love or Blind Love. The title Endless Love that is used isn't correct. I think they knew how they wanted it to end. Also, Turkish TV is famous for their frustrating endings. Maybe it's a cultural difference that life doesn't always turn out the way people want with big red bows tied on it.

I should say the writers totally did their jobs in one way for certain because they made so many people across the world care deeply about these characters. I think anyone who writes anything wants people to give a damn about it. With that said though, it wasn't all the writing. The acting performances of Burak Ozcivit and Neslihan Atagul are unrivaled.

I'm sad though. RIPKemal.

I knew I wouldn't sleep well last night after watching what happens in the final episode. I've thought about it, and I'm thinking the writers didn't take the easy way out which is to their credit, maybe. I still would've loved a happy ending.

When Emir is freed from the danger of the land mine he's standing on, he starts walking away past Kemal who, for a reason I don't know as I don't know Turkish, can't be freed from his. As soon as he moves his foot, it's all over, and he knows this. Nihan is off in the distance watching it all, crying and screaming. As Emir walks past Kemal, Kemal grabs his arm. If Emir tries to pull away, it will create a struggle and movement that would probably move Kemal's foot, setting off the land mine. Kemal detained Emir out of love for Nihan. He knew he was going to die no matter what, and he also knew that Emir would do everything he could to destroy Nihan's and baby Deniz's lives in his absence. He wasn't about to let that happen, so he took Emir down with him.

I think this might be where the incorrectly translated title of Endless Love comes in. It makes sense because Kemal gave his life and with his last decision on earth made sure Nihan and Deniz could be happy and free from Emir's clutches.

I'm still sad. It will be a while before this is out of my system.

I've gone back and watched a few of my favorite clips. Well, few may be an understatement. There are too many scenes that are fire to not watch again.

From the very beginning, the outcome of this series was laid out for anyone who was really paying attention which is no one because it's impossible to pay attention to anything other than the amazing chemistry between Kemal and Nihan. On top of that, not much gets thought about except what a knock-out stunning man Burak Özçivit is. I'll speak for myself on that one, but I know I'm not the only one.

I have lost count how many times in early episodes with the limited amount of English subtitled ones and my even more limited understanding of Turkish that Kemal talks about dying, loving only Nihan for eternity, taking Emir down with him if he had to go down, etc. which is all exactly what happened. Those are just a few of the hints. There's even a dance scene in a later episode in which the Leonard Cohen song "Dance Me to the End of Love" is played which is an unusual choice since everybody wants to translate this series's title to Endless Love.

And then there's the most obvious clue, the show's title. Kara Sevda translates literally to Blind Love, not the Endless Love that everyone calls it. If it translated to Endless Love, the title would be Sonsuz Aşk. Blind Love doesn't have "we'll be old together in the rocking chairs on the front porch" written all over it.

So the writers knew exactly what was coming from the get-go and fan outrage over the ending is futile. It wasn't going to be any other way. It's all very subtly laid out like broken twigs in a forest. If someone knows what to look for and why they're looking, they'll see them.

It's something though that I'm still thinking about the finale going on a month later. I've got more thoughts about this show that go below the surface of what it appears to be. It might require a book haha. Maybe I'll post them here in time when they gel.
