What was he doing...

When she took all her clothes off and he stuck the syringe into her arm? It was implied that they'd slept together, but why would she be out for the count?

reply

Could be wrong but I assumed he was administering some kind of tranquilliser available to dentists (as per the nitrous oxide in the previous scene) as that was the only way he could get her relaxed enough to have his evil way with her. ☺

reply

Yes, she was starting to feel guilty about what they had done, and it was spoiling things for him, so he started drugging her in various ways so she'd be so zonked she'd lose any inhibitions and do it anyway. I have no words to describe what a disgusting loathsome piece of crap this guy is!

reply

Yes or what a weak stupid woman she is

reply

Yes, definitely a weak stupid woman.

Did that actually happen in real life or added for drama?
If it happened in real life, oh boy, dunno what to think of Hazel

reply

It's a true story. Not sure how many of the smaller details are correct, but basically this is what happened. I read that the real guy is sitting in prison watching the show and getting off on the attention. I'm surprised they'd let him! The woman who was his accomplice didn't want to watch it apparently. I also read that when he was sent to prison, he asked if he could be the prison dentist! What a sicko! Needless to say, they turned him down as they didn't think it would be 'appropriate'. Honestly, you couldn't make this stuff up!!!

reply

Thanks. I meant the scenes where he drugged her to have sex with her.
Also I read the son died in accident in real life.

Though it still surprises me Hazel let herself be manipulated like that. She wanted to be with Colin, divorce the husband then.

It amazes me too, what how far some women will let themselves be manipulated - all for lurrrve. She must have been really weak, and he must have been very persuasive. Seems he had a Svengali - type hold over her. His second wife surprises me too - that she accepted his confession and still stayed with him and had his children - for so long!

You've made the assumption that he manipulated her and I can only infer that you both think he is more culpable than she is. Remember, you are basing your judgement on what the storyteller/screenwriter is allowing you to know about the story. There could possibly be some bias in the writing.

I believe the main character spells out beautifully in court how EQUALLY culpable she was. The fact that she was sentenced to less time in prison than he was tells you just how common this attitude of women being so easily manipulated is in sentencing. It might be easier for women in court, but it is an indirect insult to women - further bias.

IV diazepine of some type. Basically knocks you out and causes about 10-20 min of amnesia, and is commonly the first drug used in oral surgery to remove wisdom teeth. All I remember from when I had mine done was the hygienist saying that she needed to put some gauze in my mouth. I asked "are you ready to start?" and she looked at me, laughed, and said "baby, you're done." She then said that after the valium push that my face turned red, I started to laugh, and said "forget the teeth, lets run with this one" before passing out under the brevital drip. Now they use propofol, or as we call it, milk of amnesia.

She was so enthralled by the man, when he said that's what he wanted, she went along with it.
