Wow. Dropped a MASSIVE -55.4% from it's predecessor! What went wrong? :O

Decreased from $104,352,905 to $46,652,680...yikes

It was also released in 4,561 theatres this weekend which is the SECOND highest theatre count in history. It's also dropped big overseas in comparison to the first one which is highly unusual since they eat these animated sequels. This should have been a slam dunk billion dollar sequel increase by Illumination but it appears that the general audiences didn't see the need for a sequel. I'm not really unsure why it failed to excite the general public tbh.

This is rather unfortunate for Universal as they were relying on this film and Hobbs & Shaw to bolster their weak 2019 schedule but looks like another unfortunate victim in the long list of summer box office disappointments :(
