They've remade this film - WHY??
An utter classic.
Filmed on location under extreme circumstances very similar to those endured by the actual convicts a half century earlier, brilliant performances by every actor. Arguably one of the top 100 films of all time.
Are there no scripts circulating? Why revisit and potentially desecrate a masterpiece?
"The Great Gatsby" I understand - a lot of people didn't think the 1974 was very good, and the remake was a typical Baz Luhrmann horror show. They made their money, won some awards and pretty much got away with it, but it was still kind of an insult. Point Break - a terrible remake of a popcorn flick, again, whatever - it wasn't Citizen Kane so no harm no foul.
Even a scene from the original as inconsequential as Dustin Hoffman scolding his pigs while he was feeding them was genius - brilliantly blocked and acted. Let alone nearly every other scene.
I just think remaking what was very nearly a perfect film is stupid and disrespectful.
I know, I know - wait for the film to come out and see it before I pan it. Judging from how remakes typically go in terms of quality, do we really have to?
Can script development maybe come up with something original to green light?
