The Transformers CGI robot designs are just TOO DETAILED
They went from the simplistic designs of the 80s cartoons to this ridiculously detailed, intricate meshing and synchronised movement between hundreds of little metal body parts rendered in as many triangles in CGI as possible to show off, without realising how IMPRACTICAL such complex machines would be. It's just ridiculous, and I think it was just ego on the part of the moviemakers to try and make as many complex and hard-to-follow CGI models as possible. I mean, in many shots, it's hard to see the faces of the Transformers!
All I can say is that I'm glad that the Oscars chose to ignore this ego over so-called "innovation" by handing the Best Visual Effects Oscar to "The Golden Compass" instead. At least that movie was a new IP, even if it never took off.
