Laura Linney looks way too old for this role
She looks like she is in her 60's!
She looks a decade older than her husband and too old to be the mother of those kids, the young boy especially.

You are just used to female characters being played by actresses who are too young.
I think Bateman just looks younger than he is.
Nah, I don't think he looks young for 48 at all. Compare him to Tom Cruise, for instance, who is older.
Laura Linney just looks really old for her age - compare her to Lori Loughlin or Paula Marshall or Jane Leeves, who is slightly older.
That's bananas! Laura Linney is beautiful. She doesn't look old. She's a great actress and she's terrific in this show. They couldn't have found anyone better. This show is excellent in every respect but the cast is exceptional.
shareYeah ... I agree with you, this is what real life looks like ... it is a lot more realistic to me that Linney's and Bateman's characters would be married than some of the other stuff that goes on in this show, and even most TV shows like deadly violence happening in public all the time.
shareIt's because they have her with basically no makeup on she looks horrible
shareLinney is 53
Bateman is 48
So not so far apart
The birth thing...you may have a point as to casting
I feel like they went 'natural' on her make up in the show...usually they seem to make everyone look a decade younger at least
My OP was about how old she looks, though, not how old she is chronologically. She definitely looks older than 53. Compare her to someone like Kim Dickens who is 52 now - there is literally no comparison, makeup or not. And it's not like Kim is glammed up in the zombie apocalypse, either.
Dickens is about 52
So yeah i agree Kim is way sexier looking and at least appears like she could have young kids that age...
Your point about the age of the kids was kinda realistic tho
From early 40's on it seems difficult to deliver a child ( for medical reasons im not fully versed in)
I wouldnt throw Linney outta bed tho lol;)
She could easily pass for 53, and 53 is not old. But whatever, you marry someone and they age, get over it, that's reality. Your expectations that TV should program us to think an older woman is somehow bad or wrong is wrong.
shareAgreed, she is very old looking and way older looking than Bateman. It was very distracting.
shareAh, at least one normal person in the thread. :)
I don't know why people are in such denial about this. I read a comment saying she was beautiful and not old looking at all, they need to go to Supersavers. Nothing wrong with saying things how they are, but the PC brigade get up in arms about everything nowadays. My mum is 55 and looks fabulous. I'm almost 35 and look 20. She looks old for her age and that's the end of it.
shareCertainly the end of your believability here.
shareWell, women do age faster than men. True, you can tell she isn't a young woman any more... but she's still sexually attractive. I'd bang the shit out of her. Just saying.
shareI don't know where this misconception originated from, but if anything, women age a lot slower than men. If you take a man and a woman of the same age (over 35, let's say), the woman's face is always going to be smoother (or in the majority of cases). That's nature's way of keeping them sexually attractive for as long as possible. Men get wrinkled a lot earlier. (Many are also prematurely gray, and I won't even mention the balding.)
Besides, we already mentioned several women same age upthread who look a lot better for that age than Laura Linney - so no, it's not about *women* in general, it's about her.
I don't think it's so much that women look older than men as they age, rather that looking older is less appealing on women than it is on men...
Women love the salt and pepper of george clooney, despite his boney old guy frame... Connary was sex symbol way into his old age, etc...
However, grey hair, wrinkles and roughness are not attractive on women... So even though men and women both develop these signs of aging, it is less sexually appealing on women...
Also, women tend to find social status a factor in attractiveness, wheras men are indifferent for the most part, so that works in men's favour, in terms of aging better... As one tends to gain social stature with age...
Even the balding thing... Lots of women actually find it attractive (disclaimer: they like bald dudes, not guys with half a head of hair π, so the side bits needs to be shaved/cropped tight π)... It turns them on and is seen as hypermasculine...
Having said that, there are exceptions... Very few men will age as well as Diane Lane (still hot!), on the other hand Jude Law can't seem to be cast anymore even though he's still handsome and a solid actor, because he's lost his boyish beauty...
