Why so little interest?

I was really moved by this film. (Plus I have this sudden desire to drink German beer out of a tall ceramic tankard, but this is beside the point.) I thought the movie really hit all the notes just right and had a lot to say about war and about life and about how we deal with loss. Damn good film, this one.

I totally agree. It's one of the most beautiful movies I've seen in the last few years.

Very sad to see so much discourse around Spiderman 13 yet this amazing movie barely gets a mention anywhere.

Too artistic. Art movies are no longer watched like they once were. Too bad, this movie was really good.

People don't suddenly go from appreciating movies like this to apathy. Maybe the release and distribution of this film just wasn't right.

I think that movies have become a kids game. Most movies today aren't seen by adults. Most movies aren't made for adults. Movies like this play in cities and college towns, where people are more open to something like this. Most areas of the US don't show art films anymore. Their time has past.

How depressing. Thankfully we have books and internet sites to enable us to read about them and then buy/rent them on Blu-Ray.

Yes we do.

As other posters have mentioned, film culture has been infantalised over the past decades, but particularly so in the last 15 years... This can be seen in the wider culture as well as reality TV/social media and such have taken hold of the cultural conversation...

However, film culture (actual movies, not just comicbook ones) is still strong, it's just more niche and not at the centre of cultural conversations... So gems like Frantz get lost in the shuffle... Quality movie that is entertaining, heartfelt, mature and life affirming even though it deals with the brief period in between two of the bloodiest conflicts humanity has ever inflicted on itself...

It's such a good movie that I think people will popularise it over time, but it will remain niche... Better than being forgotten!
