The magic disappeared when

Before I start, I'll say this: I enjoyed this movie terribly.

For me the movie magic was dispelled when Hans Zimmer's score (very competent in raising tension) could not convey renewed hope when the civilian ships appeared. I would liken my feelings to watching a young bird trying to fly only to fall back down to the ground immediately. From that point on it was as if I wasn't watching the same movie, the (engrossing) cinematic illusion was gone. I am curious if anybody else had that reaction or similar emotion during that part.

I concur. Dat moment wuz like when those studentz stood up on their deskz in Dead Poetz Society and then I began 2 cry like a lil old baby. But Zimmer lost his opp.

I think that may be the case because at the alternate scenes a fight between the fighter planes was going on. So maybe there wasn't much time for a segue.
