Abby vs Heather

Maybe it's just me, but the whole Abby/Colt relationship doesn't seem believable. Obviously they are playing up the age gap with Heather/Colt. Even with that, they still seem waaaaaay more compatible than the Abby/Colt pairing. Now Abby is snarky and miserable. She must have been a lot more fun in high school

I agree.. But also they haven't really worked to develop that relationship to really care.. But they've really had a great time developing the Heather character. She came off at first at the hot dumb blonde.. But has proved herself anything but IV the second half of this first run.

I would like to know what the original plan was for Heather. She came off so slutty and trashy and expendable early on and I couldn't stand her character, but by episode 7 and onward she suddenly mellowed out into a more mature, three-dimensional character. I ended up thinking she was a better fit for Colt than Abby.

Abby isn't believable, period. What kind of *history* teacher says "the Battle of Hastings without the death of King Edward"? There was no King Edward at the battle of Hastings. I'm not a history teacher and I know that. Couldn't they have at least done the minimal research necessary to find out who the belligerent leaders were? (Clue: if she'd said "Harold Godwinson," she wouldn't have come off as such an idiot.)

I assumed she was talking about Edward The Confessor, after all, his death opened the door to William's claim and the Battle of Hastings.
Now that I think about it though, I'm pretty sure I was giving the writers too much credit...

Colt is so stunted in his growth that it's hard to tell which woman he should be with. It made more sense for him to be with Heather when she was written to be immature, but now that she's a more realistic, developed character, it seems like she's going to outgrow Colt.

Colt's relationship with Abby is clearly forced in every episode. They need to develop it in a more natural and deeper way, but I imagine, because they were very young and Abby's was Colt's first real girlfriend, they have some kind of unhealthy attachment. It doesn't help that they're in a very small town.

Kenny and Abby have no chemistry either.

I was rooting for Abby/Colt at first but at this point I think Heathers best for him. As another poster said Heathers character has really progressed and so I took a liking to her and the actress in general.

As it stands right now Heather is a much more fleshed-out character; she's young and having fun with her fling and whatnot, but she also seems to fit organically in the world that they've set up. She was a girl scout and 4H member, she babysits her nephew and emotionally takes care of her sister. If they stop pushing Colt/Abby and keep him with Heather either she will help him grow into more than a man-child or she will outgrow him.

Abby is gorgeous (Elisha Cuthbert, of course she is) and we are told she's somewhat intelligent but that's about it. Because she's so underdeveloped it's hard not to think that Colt is only hung up on her because she represents a time in his life when things came easily to him and he was still on top of the world. She claims to want him to mature, but doesn't seem to bring it out in him.

Until she gets better writing I'm rooting for Heather and Colt.

After watching season 2 I prefer Abby with Colt. I am also an Elisha Cuthbert fan.
