"Like the Battle of Hastings without the death of King Edward"


What does this joke mean?

That these rednecks are stupid? Because that Battle is not something I would expect Americans to know so the fact they get it wrong desn't really signify they are stupid.

The joke seems to imply (because she is a teacher) that the humour is from him not knowing about it "Is that a game of thrones thing?" (even though she gets it wrong as well)

This joke seems typical of this show (so far), badly executed.

This show is like 100 writers write a line each and then its copied and pasted together and the actors read it for the first time when recording
